1901 Aug Sept Oct

Aug. 

met us at Modena in ans to telegram sent from Caliente the previous day. First time I had seen them in 16 months.

Father and Mother look much older and care-worn but greatly enjoyed their presence for the short hour we were together. Reached Salt Lake on 13 at noon.

Attended Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show but had not time enough to see anything else that night.

Left 8 o'clock nest morning for Glenns Ferry. Stopped off in Ogden 2 hours and had breakfast. 

Reached our destination. Aug 16th and pitched camp on 19th at foot of King Hill on banks of Snake River

Sept 3rd -14th

Spent all our free time at fishing and rowing in the river.made several trips to town during the time we were camped there. 

Arrived to our present camp at Chalk Spur

Sept. 5th 

On 7th went to Mountain Home and had some Dental work done. Cost $4.50 Purchased Coat $3.00 and other sundries $1.75. I am now in camp.

Sept 14th 

Have walked down to Medbury this morning and rode back on freight train. Went in search of coat which was lost out of line wagon last week. 

After reaching camp washed change of clothes, mended some and tacked shoes, am now ready to read etc at 3-30. 

A heavy cluster of smoke overhead. 

Sept 15th 

Ran preliminary line along (?) cliffs where Snake River South of camp 3 miles. Smoke continues to grow more dense during day so can scarcely see one mile away but is kind of lightening up tords evening.

News came last evening stating that the forests in Oregon are on fire, hence the (?) of the thickening smoke. 

Sept 17th 

Have been to Mountain Home in company with Mr Sh...? 

Reserved an invitation for myself and the boys to attend dance there next Friday night. 

Sept 19th

Day began by being sort of cloudy and warm and ends up in a steady rain storm. Worked untill 4-15 on location. 

27th

Have neglected writing for a few days again. Will only make note of the principal items of my daily life. 

Today Arr Stradley and I met Mr. J. B. Berry and friend and took them over the proposed change in line from reverse to Triceska. Spent the night at Mr. Fricker on the S. River.

28th Came back to Glens Ferry ate dinner then came on to camp. 

29-30 Worked on preliminary line F between reverse and Medbury.

Oct 19 

19 Moved from Chalk spur to Medbury.

20th Went to Glens Ferry for Mr. Stradley.

22 I started this little journal as a dairy but it has turned out to be more of an annual than anything else. We go along with the same daily routine that I get tired of writing the same things over and over again. 

Today Andy and I took out a course of Arcitecture in the correspondence school.
